about

And here we go again.

Of all the songs on The Soft Dive Into Oblivion, I honestly feel like "Dirty Sweat" has the coolest story behind it. Shortly after finishing MAUZNER, I felt creatively exhausted with my own endeavors, and spent a lot of time focusing on working on productions for others. One of the things I wanted to do was work on stuff for my Liquid Toaster project with the incomprable Will Cwik, and this track I came up with after working in a sample of the song "BGM04" by Motohiro Kawashima. I added drums and a ton of guitar work on there, and left it to Will. A few months passed, and as I got in the thick of working on Soft Dive, I sort of rediscovered this song, and, well, I kind of stole it back, adding vocals and whatnot for it. I can't recall if this was the last song I did vox for, but it was right near the end, and, surprisingly, one of my strongest/favorite lyrical flows ever.

There are several times where I wanted this album to become a club record, but it just kept turning into a rock disc. These B-sides included here were two of the hardest songs to cut from the final trackorder. "Megatons" was recorded shortly after "Unrequited", as I intended it to use its rippling keyboard effect in some trance-like context, but when the rock guitars began pulverizing me, I just knew it was going to be more of a rocker. So heavy this song was, I actually had to phone up Corresponding Handpieces' guitar genius/mastermind Dave Semonchik to toss me a guitar solo just because this song needed one -- and, Dave being Dave, he absolutely destroyed that shit. He's seriously the best guitarist I know, and proves it each and every time. "I Ate My Baby's Dingo", meanwhile, though not featuring Dave, actually had its title named by him. In listening to these songs, you can see how much more rock-oriented Soft Dive had the potential to become.

Anywho, enough rambling. Enjoy!
